Another great phone number to have is 1-800-427-7623. This number is from the CHP and gives you the road conditions you’re going to travel. I’ve used this on a number of occasions and it’s saved me from traffic problems. On one occasion, then Highway 101 was closed at Gaviota due to a fire, I called to see if 154 was opened rather than take a detour 166. This saved me over 1 hour of travel time.
