I take back what I say about Starbucks

A few posts ago, I blogged about the reliability of Starbucks vs. the Mom and pop's of Pismo Beach. So i got a coffee this morning from Java Shack in Pismo Beach on Price Street, 773-9410.

The reason they are closed on a Sunday in the Summer is because one of the owners had knee problems and is on crutches.

So though Starbucks is still "always open," we must have patience with the mom and pop's to keep their doors open.

Wealth Mastery Notes 1

It’s not the profession it is the professional

Confusion means I am about to learn something

When I get confused, get excited

The solution to everything lies outside of my comfort zone
{otherwise I would have already figured it out}

Add these to your phone

Forget paying 99 cents for mobile 411 call! Use this!

Here's are 2 numbers I highly recommend you place on your cell phone.1-800-GOOG411 / 1-800-466-4411 This is an awesome service from Google and it's free...great when you’re on the road.

Listen to the clip and you decide!www.google.com/goog411/

I’ve just tried it and I was impressed.

Another great phone number to have is 1-800-427-7623. This number is from the CHP and gives you the road conditions you’re going to travel. I’ve used this on a number of occasions and it’s saved me from traffic problems. On one occasion, then Highway 101 was closed at Gaviota due to a fire, I called to see if 154 was opened rather than take a detour 166. This saved me over 1 hour of travel time.

Channelling Stocks

I just purchased my first stock last Friday, after attending the Wealth mastery Seminar in San Francisco.

Here's a copy of the email that I sent to one of the participants who was my support partner during the event:

Hi Mark,

Check it out. PIR. Pier 1 Imports. I bought it at $3.77. It's a volatile stock but had good support and resistance lines. We'll see.

I signed up for Telechart for 30 days free trial. After that I will see if i buy it. But i bought this stock after flipping through their stockson the Telechart program. Since they download the stock quotes onto your computer, it's much faster to flip through then if you were on MSN Money or something and trying to go to difference charts online.

I also signed up at Tdameritrade.

It's exciting. Can't wait to get into options.

Let me know how investing goes for you.

Why Starbucks rules

I went to downtown Pismo Beach today to get a coffee, then go for a walk on the beach. I would have usually went to Starbucks in Pismo Beach first, the one next to Scolaris, Rite-Aid, and Outlet malls, but I wanted to change my routine by supporting the local businesses then walk right onto the beach.

So I park downtown, away from the new paid parking area and walk to a coffee shop I used to love, The Black Pearl, but it was closed for business and in it's place was crepe place. No problem, I'll just walk a few blocks away and get a coffee at Zodak's on Price Street. When I get there, to my surprise, it wasn't Zodak's anymore, but a place called Java Shack. I couldn't believe it, but it was closed on a Sunday morning in the summer!

So then I walk back to my car, drive to the Starbucks on Five Cities drive, get my coffee, and then drive back to the beach.

I think that is the difference between chains and Mom and Pops. The chains you can rely on them being there day in and day out, and with the little guys, you don't really know. It is this consistency that keeps Starbucks in business.

Casa Sanchez Tortilla Chips

Casa Sanchez Tortilla Chips. Thick and Crispy Gruesos have got to be the best chips ever. These are one of the only store bought chips I have found that taste like really good freshly cut restaurant tortilla chips.

I find them at Scolari's in Pismo Beach and Beverages and More in San Luis Obispo. Find them online at www.casasanchez.com

Rule #1 in choosing a mexican food restaurant

Not more than an hour after I blogged yesterday, I was driving down Grand Avenue in Grover Beach and seen two signs out side of two mexican restaurants that read, "The best Mexican food."

I've been to one of these two places, and believe me, it's not the best...not even in the top ten.

Rule #1 in choosing a good Mexican Food restaurant....if it says the "best" anywhere in the signage, then it surely isn't

Old Juan's Cantina Restaurant, Oceano, Ca.

Must put this as one of the best on the Central Coast. It's a fun south of the border type of atmosphere kind of place that is almost always busy. It's well known amongst the Oceano Dunes crowd as a crowd pleaser.

What drives them in? Is it the location situated on the drag to the beach entrance? Or is it the delicious chips they provide that are tossed in parmesan cheese and are quite a treat.

The beans are delicious and the food is traditional...with flavor.

One of the best......

Taco Temple, Morro Bay, Ca

Minutes after I wrote my last post, I thought, "This just isn't fair, Taco Temple was my number one favorite until I found Chapala market," so I must give them credit.

Just down the road from Chapala Market, this place gives you absolute value. The portions are huge, and they are fresh.....and healthy.

The only thing that got me was when I was driving home from the Tulare in the Central Valley and I took a 45 minute detour just to eat here on my way to my destination, Grover Beach. The thing is, I was there for lunch. Ordered an awesome fish burrito and it was delicious....but....but...they charged me two dollars for chips. The waiter said, "The dinner chips are free, we charge for chips at lunch."

It just doesn't make sense.

Chapala Market, Morro Bay, CA

Chapala Market, Morro Bay California

There are not that many “outstanding” Mexican restaurants here on the Central Coast in California (actually, this is the only one I have found). I mean, the biggest warning that it will not be very good is if the word “authentic” is anywhere on the signage outside of the restaurant. Authentic to me is being able to smell these delicious foods being made from somewhere in the neighborhood 300 yards from where I was practicing AYSO soccer at Liberty Elementary School in Tulare, Ca and thinking “the food at home doesn’t smell like this.”

Chapala’s food is flavorful and they do each part of it outstanding. These people are sitting on a goldmine. Because to be listing on Gooooooogle as a Market is a huge dis-service, they need a marketing man …or women to come in their and get their branding right…but maybe that is why I like it.

It’s actually a restaurant inside of a mini-mart gas station. I’m not sure how it developed, but I would guess that it started out as a gas station and mini-market, then they started to sell some burritos and tacos out of it, and the demand got so high, that they cleared out the Doritos and toothpaste shelves and put in tables, with comfortable chairs, a few plasma’s with the Mexican channel on at all times, painted it southwestern, and called it good.

Here’s the beauty of it, their chips are one step below homemade. Homemade would be making them by hand. Three steps down would be getting chips out of a bag. But the next level under homemade is to cut corn tortillas and deep-fry them. They are so delicious. And they come out hot! Then you get homemade salsa. Which used to be fire truck hot, but today they had a fresh chunkier version that leaves a little burn, but doesn’t come with the sweat, the water drinking and the limitations of only eating 4 chips before you must take a break.

For now I stick with the tacos al pastor…. pork meat that has been in a wicked marinade, then grilled, served over two taco truck tortillas with slices of radishes and fresh limes. The flavor is like an explosion in your mouth.

Another thing I get is the veggie burrito. I know, plain. But their beans and rice are so seasoned and so tasty, that who needs anything else?

I am told that their signature dish is the Chili Relleno Burrito. I will blog on that the next time I am in there.

And the price is right! Two tacos, veggie burrito, and tax were $8.82. Plus you get waited on by a handsome man with slicked back hair, jeans and a lovely shirt. And he’s a nice guy.

Though the men’s bathroom would get negative points in a Zagat survey…like really scary. And the scariest part is that in Hotel School at UNLV they said “Look at the restaurants bathroom. Whatever the bathroom looks like, is how the kitchen is.” But I will give the benefit of the doubt that the family that owns it eats there too.

Though I hate to give up my secret little spot. But God bless them for delivering such a fantastic product that I cannot keep it a secret. Oh, you can call them and get your order to go to.
